Planning the Perfect Sunset Proposal on Bonaire

See how 5 different couples got engaged in a private setting on the ocean with help from Life at 8 Knots!

One of my favorite parts of our charter business on Bonaire is helping people plan their perfect enagagement aboard our catamaran. So far, we've had 5 happy couples get engaged aboard the Lost Cat. Here's how we pulled off each one, and the tips I learned along the way.

Lindy & Bob, Engaged Dec 22, 2023

Bob's proposal was the most romantic engagement I have witnessed aboard our catamaran. He knew exactly what he wanted for the evening and we helped him set the perfect stage for his proposal. Click the items on his wish list below to learn more:

A High-End Dinner w/ Private Chef

We worked with Chef Han from the well-known restaurants "Chefs" on Bonaire to curate the menu for the couple. Bob requested a light dinner that started with oysters and Champagne. Chef Han procured & prepped the food himself, and provided us with a chef to cook the 5-course meal on board. Having the professional chef on board certainly added to the elegance of the night, and allowed Captain James and I to focus on our roles.

Crew Involvement

A Specific Song

Bob was well prepared, but the flow of the evening was natural and simply beautiful! It was an honor to witness this couple, so obviously in love, seal the deal to start their next chapter together with a ring and a kiss.

She said YES! 💍 Watch the proposal unfold:

Bianca & Kyle, Engaged August 8, 2023

This proposal was our FIRST aboard Lost Cat! Kyle did his research online and was recommended to us via a Reddit thread. He got in touch to see how we could customize the cruise to make the evening extra special, and we promised to pull out all the stops. We delivered a perfect, unobstructed view of the sunset and ended the evening with a 3-course meal and bubbly to celebrate.

Kyle & Bianca's was a family affair. His mother, father, and brother were all there to witness the moment he proposed. How'd he do it? He convinced Bianca to take a sunset photo with him on the bow and then dropped to one knee. Sneaky move!

Mina & YG, Engaged December 20, 2023

YG and Mina are dear friends of ours that live on Bonaire. So when YG asked if we could help him surprise her with a proposal, we were honored to do so. We sent out a message to them both, inviting them out for a nice sunset cruise on board.

We wanted to parake in the celebration, so instead of cooking dinner we opted to order a sushi platter from Sushi by Jaimy. Sushi is one of Mena's favorite cuisines, so it was perfect. This proposal will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Maria & Kevin, Engaged February 1, 2024

Of the women who have been proposed to on board, I think Maria was the most surprised! She and Kevin were on a dive vacation with their buddies from the Oklahoma-based shop, Nautical Adventures Scuba. They were celebrating their final sunset together aboard Lost Cat when Kevin popped the question in front of the group. There was lots of hootin' and hollerin' when she said yes!

Their proposal was a lot of fun and we all celebrated with a round of Prosecco. When Kevin asked us for some advice for proposing onboard we gave him 2 tips. 1. Wait for us to stop the boat before you get down on one knee and 2. Keep that big, beautiful ring in the box so you don't drop it!

Liz & Holland, Engaged March 30, 2024

Liz and Holland first joined us aboard Lost Cat in 2021, when James was their PADI Instructor. Their dive group went on a sunset cruise to celebrate obtaining their Open Water Certification. (See first photo on the left). Fast forward 3 years and Liz contacts James to book another sunset cruise for their returning group. Little did she know, her boyfriend Holland had other plans for that evening...

Check out the reel that I made for them of the proposal:
